Musicians from all over the UK come together for this party of Rebetiko music with a band of many bouzoukia, accordion, violins, guitars, singers, percussion and anything else you can think of! Dancing, singing…the greatest songs that everybody knows and loves. The music of Toundas, Skarvelis, Vamvakaris, Papaioannou, Tsitsanis, Mitsakis, Hiotis and others. All musicians fees and funds raised from tickets go into supporting outreach and education projects, as well as bringing great artists over from Greece so that we can continue to put on this wonderful festival and do the work that continues through the year. Join musicians from Plastikes Karekles, Moosootoo, Pakaw, Megla, Kourelou and other groups for what will be an unforgettable afternoon of song and dance.
kourelou - band
'Kourelou' is a Greek word meaning 'patchwork'; material made from pieces of torn cloth that would otherwise go to waste. The band reflects the broad, complex and colourful picture of traditional Greek music; a synthesis of multiple styles, rhythms and instruments ranging from bouzouki to Thracian bag-pipes, Epirus violin and Cretan Lyra.
Megla - band
Megla is a group of three Cyprus-born and raised musicians, now living in London with a passion for Greece's interwar period music, the infamous Rebetiko.
Moosootoo - band
Moosootoo is comprised mainly from musicians coming from Greece and Cyprus and have a deep understanding of the different styles of Greek music, the dances, the instruments and the rhythms. Their repertoire is huge and extremely variable extending from Ionian Islands Kantades to Rebetiko,
PAKAW! - band
London's one and only all female Greek music band touching all the traditions and historical worlds in and around Greece. This all-female combo pushes the boundaries of the traditional with Greek music at its core, five tangy, opinionated, international women excite with their sultry vocals and versatile musicianship.
Plastikes Karekles - band
Plastikes Karekles, An eclectic fusion of international and Greek musicians with roots from traditional Greek folk to classical and jazz. The group is known for their own arrangements of music by Theodorakis, Hadjidakis and Xarhakos featuring a fusion of classical string instruments with Greek traditional ones as well as performances with a more traditional set up performing rebetiko.
