The songs of these great composers have been filling concert halls, tavernas and households for the last 60 years. Through the beautiful melodies, traditional folk rhythms and lyrics written by some of Greece’s greatest poets (Seferis, Gatsos, Ritsos), they have become a part of Greece’s cultural DNA.

This evening’s band is formed of musicians from some of the UK’s favourite Greek groups, including Amalgama, The Rebetiko Carnival Musicians and Plastikes Karekles.
Between them the musicians have performed at festivals in the UK, Greece and elsewhere, including Italy, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Spain. In the UK they have performed at Purcell Room, Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, St David’s Hall as part of the Proms, King’s Place, as well as more intimate venues such as the Green Note, Vortex and the Forge, London. The musicians are also the founding members and at the heart of the Rebetiko Carnival, a biannual, one month festival in June with Rebetiko music at its heart. They are dedicated to exposing this treasured music to as many people as possible as well as carrying out outreach work in schools, special needs communities, hospitals and prisons.
