Experience the voices of Alkanna Graeca as they intertwine the ancient folk traditions of the Balkans, Mediterranean, and Black Sea, forging a sound both primal and transcendent.
Rooted in the rich polyphonic traditions of the Balkans, their voices—earthy yet ethereal—carry the call and response of centuries past, reshaped and reborn through improvisation.
Mountain Echoes is a collection of songs weaving together the very fabric of mountain landscapes, where sound ripples and reverberates through time with an otherworldly depth.
Alkanna Greaca is a vocal trio blending raw folk traditions from the Balkans, Mediterranean, and Black Sea with free improvisation and expansive soundscapes. Formed by Dunja Botic, Alexandra Achillea, and Irini Arabatzi, the trio’s music intertwines the rich cultural heritage of their homelands with a bold, boundary-pushing edge.
Irini’s voice, shaped by her Greek roots, and jazz and South American influences, has taken her to international stages. Dunja, a Serbian-Greek singer and actress, moves seamlessly between theatre and music, drawing inspiration from Maqam and jazz. Alexandra’s background in classical, folk, and experimental music has carried her from opera houses to underground scenes. Together, they create a sound that is earthy, timeless, and steeped in tradition—stripped bare, transformed, and reborn through improvisation.
