The Greek violin for all!

Violin workshop with Kyriakos Gouvendas

Monday 12th June 2023 @ The Cypriot Community Centre

This workshop will examine the learning process of traditional melodies followed by a classically trained violinist in comparison to a self-taught or traditionally trained violinist. Kyriakos Gouventas sets three areas of focus when learning a traditional tune: The oral tradition that the tune belongs to, the past recordings of the song and the violin technique specifically required to perform the tune.

A great chance to meet one of the grand-masters of traditional violin up close and personal!

Musicians of all levels are welcome to attend with their instruments. Although it is taught through the violin, there will be musical relevance to other instrumentalists so all are welcome.

There will be a Q&A session at the end of the workshop.

Kyriakos Gouvendas. Today, there are only a few grand masters in the genre. Kyriakos Gouventas is considered the leading-figure worldwide. In his extraordinary career he has given hundreds of performances from China to America and from Africa to Australia, collaborating with internationally acclaimed artists and orchestras. Kyriakos, the “Genius of the violin” has created a musical scene of his own and a great following around his work.
