This covers a very wide range of work throughout the year. We send musicians to hospitals, special needs as well as mainstream schools, prisons, residences for people with dementia, care homes for people with special needs. It is extremely important to us that we take our music to those that do not have the good fortune of being able to come to hear live music themselves. We even have a scheme whereby we go to individual people’s homes and play for them over some tea and biscuits, so that they have a very personal experience with us and the music. Therapy and relief through music comes in many forms and it is central to what we do at the Rebetiko Carnival. Our ultimate goal is to be in a position where every musician that takes part in the festival, whether based here or abroad, also takes the time to do some outreach work.
