Nikos Papazoglou (1948 – 2011) born in Thessaloniki, he began performing in a number of local Greek groups during the 60s. Later, he worked on a number of projects with Dionysis Savvopoulos, Manolis Rasoulis and Nikos Xydakis. Papazoglou had an exceptional deep voice that is known for its passion and idiosyncratic tone. His music style was an assortment of Rebetiko, rock and traditional Greek music. Famous for his live concerts and his distinctive vocal delivery, he gained followers from all generations.
The path Papazoglou opened was followed by a number of equally successful composers and singers. In the second part of the concert, we will play songs by artists of the likes of Sokratis Malamas, Thanassis Papakonstantinou, Manolis Lydakis and Dimitris Zervoudakis among others. This latest generation has injected a new breath of life to the Rebetiko by drawing from varied musical sources and creating a fascinating musical style. This shows that the Rebetiko music still has the ability to reinvent itself. Long live Rebetiko!
